The Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta

“I’m pleased to announce that the Overseas Private Investment Corporation will host its annual conference this spring in Indonesia to highlight new opportunities for partnership here and across the region”
President Barack Obama
Jakarta, Indonesia
November 2010

The Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) is pleased to host Access to Opportunity in Southeast Asia, an international investment conference designed to identify investment opportunities in the region’s emerging markets, encourage joint ventures between U.S. and regional businesses, and facilitate support for new investment in Southeast Asia.

The conference will be held in May 3 – 5, 2011 in Jakarta, Indonesia at the Shangri-La Hotel.  OPIC’s annual investment conferences provide participants a unique opportunity to meet personally with a mix of entrepreneurs, financiers and decision-makers who can best enable them to take advantage of the potential in new markets. Attendees will hear presentations by leading investment experts, U.S. businesses currently investing in Southeast Asia, financial institutions operating in the region, and U.S. government officials. Conference sessions will focus on access to credit, private equity, infrastructure, tourism and entrepreneurship. Particular emphasis will be placed on the renewable energy and clean technology sectors.
OPIC was established as an agency of the U.S. government in 1971. OPIC helps U.S. businesses invest overseas, fosters economic development in new and emerging markets, complements the private sector in managing risks associated with foreign direct investment, and supports U.S. foreign policy. Because OPIC charges market-based fees for its products, it operates on a self-sustaining basis at no net cost to taxpayers.
OPIC’s financing and political risk insurance also help U.S. businesses of all sizes to compete in emerging markets and meet the challenges of investing overseas when private sector support is not available. OPIC promotes U.S. best practices by requiring projects to adhere to international standards on the environment and worker and human rights.
